Learning with Shannon Trust

Shannon Trust believes that nobody should be left out of learning. We reduce barriers so everyone has the chance to learn, regardless of their circumstances or background.

Our learner led programmes are flexible and tailored to individual needs. By providing options around how to learn, our informal programmes suit those who have never read a word before or want to improve their existing literacy or numeracy skills.

  • Turning Pages

Turning Pages is a fresh, easy way for adults to learn to read, at their own pace. Usually a person who can read (the mentor, reading coach, friend or family member) works through the Turning Pages manuals with a person who wants to learn to read (the learner).

  • Write Now

Write Now works alongside Turning Pages. The activity books include writing exercises appropriate for the learner’s literacy level at each stage, ranging from practicing capital letters and writing names and places, to filling in forms or responding to a letter from a loved one, as well as comprehension questions and a selection of reading books.

  • Count Me In

Count Me In works in a similar way to our reading programme and gives learners the practical numeracy skills they need to navigate daily life. This can include supporting children with their homework, understanding household spending and feeling more relaxed using figures at work.
